I absolutely loved this book! It was such a fun mix of whimsical, charming, funny, and spooky! It's got the classic "gather the party to go on a quest" plot, but the party dynamic is just so fun. A princess turned nun (kind of), a dog made of bones, a grave witch with a demon chicken familiar, an ex-knight, and a failure of a fairy godmother cross kingdoms to kill one awful prince, all in one short and extremely well-contained story! Seriously, the pacing is perfect. The writing if absolutely fantastic with enough whimsey to give the horrifying elements that classic fairytale tone. The message is clear and important without being too in your face. And I have to bring up the characters again, I just love them so much. Marra doesn't want to be the main character, but she'll do whatever it takes to help her sister, even if it means completing a handful of horrible, impossible tasks. I highly recommend this book and I'm so glad I picked it up.
