The Host by Stephenie Meyer

I LOVE THIS BAD BOOK!!!!!!!!! i don’t know what’s wrong with me but whenever i reread this i find myself absolutely WEEPING through the last like 150 pages. i love LOVE!!!!! i love ALIENS! and most of all, goddamn, i love animorphs!!!!
stephenie meyer is of course an absolute moralistic mess of a writer and she doesn’t fully have a grasp on the themes of the story she wants to tell (not like animorphs does, amirite!) BUT 1) there is so much to unpack and unravel from that moralism that the reading experience of all the stuff about bodily autonomy & desire & love & motherhood & creating a life for oneself is worth it; and 2) honestly she is not QUITE as bad a storyteller as everyone, including me, loves to claim.
also must be said: KILLS me that she makes BOTH her teenage female protags argue/lie about their age so they can fuck twentysomething men. oh stephenie!
