When We Had Wings: A Story of the Angels of Bataan by Susan Meissner, Ariel Lawhon, Kristina McMorris
5.0
Written jointly by Ariel Lawhon, Kristina McMorris and Susan Meissner. I'm a fan of McMorris having read "The Ways We Hide" and "Sold On A Monday" earlier this year. That familiarity drew me in to reading this book. This trio of authors did an excellent job retelling the story of nurses in Manila following the strike on Pearl Harbor. By weaving together the lives of three specific fictional nurses, one from Navy, one from the Army and one a Filipina civilian nurse they were able to explore a broad range of human experience during the war in an area that I had not read anything about before. Well researched and masterfully told.
