is this book about transformative justice?????? probably not on purpose but !!!!
i forgot how Everything this book was, but my god, i just love every bit of it: the mazes, the ciphers, the sneaking out, the Grumpy Librarian And His Aloof Cat; the history and memory of it all; the reckoning with your father’s unspeakable legacy. the broken girl weaving her way toward healing a broken country with her broken heart and all her broken friends. bitterblue the character is just so so much: i shed actual tears SO many times with the fervor of my love for her. her pain, her grief, her ignorance, her fear, her curiosity, her IMPOSSIBLE LOVE AND BRAVERY AND COMMITMENT FOR A BETTER FUTURE. i wish she were in charge of my godforsaken country. i love her so much and i love that the two previous books exist so that we can have this one, in all its terrible complexity.
- She dreamed that she was walking from rooftop to rooftop in Bitterblue City. She was walking on the castle roof. She was walking on the edges of the parapets of the glass roof of her castle tower, and she could see everything all at once, the buildings of her city, the bridges, the people trying to be strong. The sun warmed her, a breeze cooled her, and there was no pain, and she wasn’t afraid to be standing at the top of the world.
