The Secret Life of Albert Entwistle by Matt Cain

5.0

This is the case of the right book at the right time.

Albert works for the post office and is 64 years old. Quiet and unassuming, he doesn’t interact much with his co-workers or the folks along his route (he terms it “walk”). When he’s told that he will have to retire when he’s 65, he becomes more open. He starts to deal with the trauma of his past and decides to go after the love of his life.

The message if this book is that it’s never too late. I could quibble with how belabored the middle of the novel is, but in actuality I loved the motley crew of characters and enjoyed watching Albert’s awakening along with the kindness of others.
