a very good read that i read all today
pros:
- very gripping, the story has so many twists and turns and it's never quite clear what's happened, or is going to happen. Would like to reread
- absolutely adore the magic systems in it - the words the judges get, Badb, the rituals, the augur magic, etc. it's just brilliant, so vivid. and i loved how it co-exists with daily life
- this turned on the head the sympathies of the first book, which were on the side of the augurs most of the way through, where this one painted the augurs as the ruthless ones and David as decent. but really it shows that both sides have people willing to go too far
- the writing is brilliant, very evocative
cons:
- bit of a shame that Wren and Tarc weren't more involved
- was a touch confusing with so many characters, irish words and a complicated plot, but i kinda loved that too
overall, a very good sequel to the Wren Hunt and Mary Watson is a very talented writer
