A Study in Drowning by Ava Reid
4.0
•this book surprised me in so many ways! Truthfully, for the first maybe 20% I was a bit confused and not entirely sure what was happening or where the story was going but the writing was so captivating & beautiful that I couldn’t stop reading.
•A Study In Drowning is serving gothic fairytale, its moody, dark and eerie. The atmosphere was written to perfection. The world is a bit rough, there isn’t much backstory or world building so you’re just sort of dropped into the story and feel a little bit in the dark until you’ve wrapped your head around what’s happening.
•I really enjoyed the main characters. Effy has a lovely character arc and Preston is broody & sarcastic but supportive (and dreamy!)
•I didn’t know until half way that there is a second book coming, and I’m so excited to keep reading about these characters! It doesn’t end on a major cliffhanger and I’m not entirely sure where the next book will go, but I’m looking forward to it!
