I've heard about this over and over since it first came out, and obviously it had a lot of hype, but the hype was NOT wrong! I first tried the audiobook and didn't love that, but the print was much easier for me to get into. Beautiful and awful, and so grounded in reality. I loved that even though the main story is the abusive relationship Machado was in, it was surrounded by stories of love and support and wonderful friends. The writing style was perfect, and I look forward to reading more by her.
