Overview
Dear Reader,
Welcome to my 2022 Summer of Pride Reading challenge! This is a summer reading list for the girlies, gays, and theys! One month is not enough, so we’re celebrating ALL summer long, from May to September! Don’t worry that there’s 13 prompts because only 8 are compulsory! But feel free to challenge yourself! Every prompt will require that the book you choose have an LGBTQIA+ protagonist and they ideally won’t be killed off. And the author will ideally be a part of the community as well, but it’s not a requirement.
I've added many books to each prompt to give you some options, but you're more than welcome to read whatever book you want to fulfill the prompt requirements! I tried to steer clear of the more popular authors and books that are found on BookTok/Bookstagram or just big name books. I also tried to be as inclusive with including books that depicted or were written by plus-sized, BIPOC, and disabled individuals, but feel free to add your own recommendations to make the challenge as inclusive as possible. For the most part, these are books I haven't read, so they're not recommendations from me, but ones I found to fit the criteria for the prompts. That being said, some of these books could be terrible, and some of them could be problematic (which I tried really hard to sus out but I went through hundreds of books). I tried to only include books that had a rating of 3.30 or higher just to be sure, but that's no guarantee. They’re mostly there to give you an idea of what the prompt is looking for and to help you if you’re having trouble choosing something.
Keep in mind that there's ALOT of crossovers with the books I've added, therefore there may be smut in some of the books not in the spicy prompt (i.e. Smut for the Gays) and there might be bi representation in a book that is also sapphic. And unless the prompt strictly states it is YA, it's possible that there are YA, NA, or smutty books in any of the other prompts, so always check a book and its trigger warnings before reading. But if you see a book in one prompt that could satisfy another prompt, feel free to use it!
Happy Reading! And enjoy the summer vibes!
Love,
Rose
