If you're studying forensics, you'll adore this book! It's the perfect mix of education and intrigue via Sue Black's personal experiences & expertise. This book made me miss doing autopsies & death investigations!

If you like true crime but would fall asleep in an anatomy class, I will say that it can read like a textbook quite often. I still think you should give it a shot, though! Her experiences are so unique due to being in a position unlike many others.

You can tell she is an expert in her field because she made such a complex field accessible to learn about. I felt like I learnt so much even if I was a bit too queasy for some of it..

I thoroughly enjoyed this. Perfect for murder mystery girlies. Very dark at times. Perfect mix of medical and layman terminology.

I love biological anthropology so when this book was recommended on my Tiktok, I knew I had to read it! Sue Black is clearly passionate about her work and this book is a love letter to her profession.

Parts of this were definitely more memoir than textbook, which is a good and ok thing for me. I liked it for how personable it made the story, but it also sometimes affected the pacing and made me wonder how certain cases could possibly be related to the body parts being discussed. It is also a very difficult read in terms of content, I had not read the trigger warnings beforehand and wish I had as there are very sensitive topics in this book.

I would recommend this book to fans of true crime and anatomy, although I am definitely more of the latter rather than the former (which did affect how I felt about some of the content). This is also a great read for anyone interested in science and research in general.
