This book spent way too long in the first half hitting you over the head with Kolis and the angst only for all the pieces to unroll roughly as expected.

This book is unlike the first two books in this series. It was difficult to read because the first half centers on sexual violence and abuse, but I think JLA tactfully represented the mental and physical impacts of it. I think this book is bridging the Blood and Ash series with this series, and I’m eager to see what unfolds next.

I really liked this book but I also skipped half of Sera’s internal monologues, which felt like half the book sometimes. I def cried which I haven’t done since Kingdom of Ash. Part of me wants to give it 4* because the parts I loved I really loved, but there was also a lot of “when does this get good again”

I hated the first 60% of this book.   Sera was so TSTL- distracting Ash, escaping very poorly,  being judgemental of situations she was ignorant of. This book could have been way shorter. I really considered just reading a spoiler. Her internal monologue was so annoying, and their dialogue was repetitive.

My feelings about this book are very similar to my feelings about A Court Of Silver Flames.  I don't buy that she's a badass and a good liar, but constantly having a panic attack. I have anxiety disorder and don't need to read about her nonstop breathing exercises, just like i didn't need to read about Nesta going through CBT.   I'm reading fantasy for an escape.

At least it was pretty spicy.

The story of Sartoria finally explains a lot about FBAA.  I wish she had played a larger role and have been more active from within Sera.
