I might be done with this author. Ended up skimming most of the book because of the repetitive interior monologue. Also the first third was cringe.

I had to deduct some points from this one because theres like a whole chapter that's literally just Ash and Sera having sex. It's like 8 times and I'm sorry but no one can come that much in a sitting lmao it was tedious to read through when the steam is usually so strategically placed.

I was going to give this 2 stars, just because this was way too tense and unpleasant for my tastes, but Jennifer very generously made it up to us in the last few chapters, so I bumped it back up to 3.

FTR, the sexual assault in this book is not explicit, it is quite vaguely described, but I still found it disturbing and quickly skimmed over the two worst ones.

Reading the Kolis bit was A LOT - there was sooo much
SA, abuse, etc.
it got kind of hard to read at times. I also wish they would have put in a couple of chapters of nyktos and others so it wasn’t just all sera. They were also separated for a LOOONg time which was a little killer.

The last bit of the book was much better. I adore Ash and Sera so much. I loved how the book ended with spice and a little bit of cry.  Their story is just the best

I love me a good steamy vampire romance. HOWEVER: 1. if you are gonna write high fantasy, dont use phrases and concepts that literally never would happen in a pre-industrialization world. Like why tf are you making a "fast food" joke? 2. THERE πŸ‘ IS πŸ‘ NO πŸ‘ NEED πŸ‘ FOR πŸ‘ GRAPHIC πŸ‘ DESCRIPTIONS πŸ‘ OF πŸ‘ VIOLENCE πŸ‘ AGAINST πŸ‘ WOMEN πŸ‘ IN πŸ‘ A πŸ‘ FANTASY πŸ‘ BOOK. Honestly, there are very few situations that this type of violence should be used in any fiction book.

TBH if I wasn't such a sucker for this series it would be rated lower.

If the two main characters hadn’t been imprisoned for over 300 pages, this would have probably been a 5 star.
That being said, the use of their imprisonment to uncover the lore  of the main villain was very well done. It could easily have been depressing and tedious but instead it was suspenseful and compelling.
I finished this book on my lunch break and found myself at barnes and noble after work, picking up the next one in the series.

This book was incredibly repetitive and nothing happened for the first 60%. Not a ton even happened in the last 40%, but at least the plot moved forward. If I weren’t already so invested in Sera and Ash’s story I’d check out, honestly. Praying that the last book is better (books 1 & 2 were much better, so I have hope).
