Such an accessible way to discuss gender and not shy away from complicated questions and issues on the subject. It was great to read about a nonbinary person who uses e/em/eir pronouns, which I'm less familiar with! The storyline was easy to follow and I think Maia did a great job of showcasing the complexity, hardship, and beauty of genderqueerness. Just a really moving book. Reminds me of Fun Home but with more introspection from the author. I also appreciated how this book didn't really provide easy answers. It invited you in to think like Maia does and join em in the deluge of questions and uncertainties. Also, the art was beautiful!

I really loved this book and hope to share it with many people. Maia clearly explains eir thoughts and choices growing up, and I hope my kids are inspired by em.

Read it all in one night. Fast paced and keeps you wanting to read on. Definitely made me understand non binary identity on a deeper level.

I loved this book. Fantastic artwork and a very honest look at gender. For many people it isn't simply what the doctor says in the birthing room. Kobabe didn't shy away from sharing unexpected trauma, confusion (internal and external) or conversations (even the uncomfortable ones) with family. There is a lot packed into these 240 pages.

What an excellent book. I learned way more than I thought I would! The author does a great job of storytelling and I really feel like I have a much deeper understanding of how trans and nonbinary experiences can be after reading. I think everyone would benefit from reading this! Honestly it is way more tame than I thought it would be considering how controversial and banned it is. Hats off to the author for putting it out there, what a brave thing to do. I feel grateful for the reading experience!
