Such a great adventure story! The Count of Monte Cristo’s complex plan for vengeance is fun to see played out, although I didn’t love the ending.

Dumas is an author I've never read. But his work keeps getting mentioned in interesting contemporary novels, so I thought I should take the plunge. I listened to this book--from Audible--the narrator is very good and I keep running around the house exclaiming French names like, "Caderousse!"
A very, very, long tale of intrigue and revenge, it is a sort of 19th century soap opera. I love Balzac's novels; Dumas is not so dark, not so ponderous, also not so monumental a novel, but completely enjoyable. I was totally addicted to it and listened every moment I could.

4.5- I listened to the Audiobook, and after 46 hours I understand why so many people like this book. The only complaint is that it is too long, while I understand why it was written this way, it was so much information to take in. The revenge overall happened at such a good pace, seeing how well Edmond started this domino game with all those who harmed him was worth the wait. I came to the book from the movie, I expected there to be much more than what the movie could have shown and I fell into a copy of the audiobook. I will say I think I would have felt the same about the length that I do with the audiobook, but If I have another chance to read a physical copy of the book I would probably try that as well.

I'll have to say it's my favorite Dumas. I want to write it into a 12-hour musical someday. Ok, if I can squeeze it into 3, it would be a Broadway hit!

An extraordinary story of betrayal and revenge against a backdrop of 19th century French society and politics. An engaging read. There's a certain satisfaction I'm sure in watching those who betrayed and lied to reach the heights of Paris society start to unravel through the efforts of an avenging angel and get what they deserved. Until even the angel questions whether he has gone too far.
