Shallow! SOOO FREAKING SHALLOW!

Like I get that's the point of the plot, but it was utterly unbearable. Every single character sucked. It was beyond "unlikeable"... they were just all awful humans.

And this is definitely NOT a thriller. Or mystery. Or anything other than straight drama. So much insecure and judgmental drama.

Thanks so much to NetGalley and Mindy’s Book Studio for an ARC of Friends in Napa: A Novel by Sheila Yasmin Marikar in exchange for an honest review.

Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 5/5

Once I picked it up, I could not put it down. There are so many layers. The characters are so well developed—so much fun. We all think the grass is greener, and this book shows on so many levels why you need to appreciate what you have. I loved the attention to detail. I had so much fun guessing throughout this book—it was an entertaining read. I will have to see what other books are part of Mindy’s Book Studio and read them all.

I really tried to get into this book. I DNF at 30% because the descriptions were so much. Like wayyy too many unnecessary details. There is a scene in a Michelin star restaurant and we get 1-2 pages on the backstory of the chef who isn't even a main character. I was hoping for more of a mystery vibe based on the description. Instead it was a lot of 30-somethings with dysfunctional relationships for several chapters.

This book was described to me as White Lotus meets Friends from College, and I think that’s the perfect description. While I can see why people didn’t like it, I really enjoyed it. It’s certainly a book that you need to be in the right mood for though. The ending is… something, but other than that this was a fun summer read.
