Another great story in this series. Ms. Severn takes suspense to the next level. You are on the edge of your seat the entire time. Camille is one of the strongest heroines I’ve read. Finn is a little hard-headed when it comes to confronting his feelings but it makes it that much better when he finally does.

Fantastic addition to the series. The story had so many unexpected twists and turns I was constantly surprised. Every time I thought I had it all figured out I was fooled again. If you love suspense this book has it in spades.

The Witness is deputy US marshal and former combat medic Finnick Reed and the witness he's been assigned to protect from a serial killer Camille Goodman's story.

Trigger Warning: Serial Killer, Violence

Warning: This can be read as a standalone but it helps to know that one of the protagonists made their appearance felt in the previous book.

Synopsis:
Camille has been hiding out. It's been a year since she was almost killed by the Carver. But her hiding spot has been compromised and that is when she contacts Finn, the Marshal assigned for her safety.

Finn finds an unconscious Camille, with a masked stranger about to take her life. But the Carver is in jail. Then who is this killer who made an attempt on the only person who can bring the Carver down?

Review:
The Witness has a suspenseful start and the story keeps getting better and better. I was waiting to read Finn's story, the Marshal who is obsessed with superheroes, since reading the first book in the series.

I have read quite a few serial killer stories but this is the first one where the killer is an ex of the heroine's. Also, the twisted mind of the killer makes him an eligible candidate for dissection in the show, Mindhunter.

It's like every time [a:Nichole Severn|5763145|Nichole Severn|https://images.gr-assets.com/authors/1544285676p2/5763145.jpg] brings something new to her stories, with heroines who may be vulnerable but are still badass. And heroes who are strong, yet sensitive! I love this author's writing so freaking much.

Set in Florence, Oregon, where Camille was relocated to after she survived the first attack, The Witness sees a civilian helping a Marshal to solve a case, where they discuss everything related to the investigation. Be it leads, studying crime reports, decoding sick minds, and lots of stabby as well as lovey goodness!

There's so much action, and danger, and the constant fear of death, coupled with mysterious killers, that constantly keep the action amped up.
Grief took him by surprise like that sometimes. It tended to blindside him when he least expected it, then took his mind on a joyride through a past he’d rather forget.

The chemistry between Finn and Camille is too good, their inside jokes the cutest. But as it happens, he is stubborn about not falling in love and hesitant about relationships because of his traumatic past.

I'm so sad that Mindhunter didn't get renewed for more seasons, because there's a small character, involving a mindset based on what could go wrong with investigators who are overly obsessed with criminals and what makes them tick, much like the character of Holden Ford in the series. After all, there's a thin line between being good and bad, which is in itself a subjective topic.

The ending was pure joy and a surprise, the way Camille shaped up her life after enduring such trauma. But what was more of a surprise is how much I am enjoying the Marshal Law series. In Blackhawk Security series, I almost always guessed who the bad guy was. But now, the author has put in too many twists and turns and I am not able to accurately guess the villain, which makes the reads more thrilling and interesting!

We're also introduced to one of the protagonists of the next book – [b:The Prosecutor|56881712|The Prosecutor (A Marshal Law Novel Book 3)|Nichole Severn|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1611959871l/56881712._SY75_.jpg|88938506] – Jonah Watson, who is also ex-FBI.

Thank you to the author for an e-ARC of the book.
