I grabbed this after seeing the acclaimed play version at New Diorama, and, boy, am I glad I did. What a powerhouse -- innovative in form without ever resorting to gimmick. The last few pages took my breath away, if only because they were extraordinary in their ordinariness.

The author writes in her acknowledgements about the fondness she's developed for her protagonist, and I'm in complete agreement; she's unnamed but she's hard to shake from your brain. This is all to say: I'll be thinking about this one for a long while!

Took me a minute to get into the style of this book but once I got in the zone I really felt it helped to immerse me in the main character's thoughts and experiences over the course of this day, as if I was living it with her. This was a painful read and the parts where she was rehearsing how to say what had happened and where it was popping up as an intrusive thought when she was doing other things were like memories for me rather than fiction. Well done. Confused about the toilet note writer, though, what was that about?

A really unique book, presented as a fascinating and believable stream of consciousness. The main character is elusive and knowable all at once which fits the fragmented style. The only reason I didn’t give it 5 stars is that the layout was sometimes a bit too confusing and it was tough to know where to focus my attention. I also don’t think this book will be for everyone. Check the triggers before you pick it up

wowww this was good. the way it was written took a little while to get used to: its written in stream of consciousness which sometimes splits into two, so its sometimes tricky to know which part to be reading at which point, but i kind of think thats the whole point, and creates the stifling, clashing effect which perfectly matches an inner monologue. once i was used to it, however, it came really naturally, and i read it in two sittings. i’ve seen a couple reviews talking about reading this as an audiobook which i would find really interesting i think. really evocative and tactile writing. amazing. 4.5 stars
