I didn’t really have any expectations going in to this book. All I knew was that this book had elements of Greek Mythology and a very interesting story. It’s safe to say that this book exceeded my expectations and I enjoyed it immensely.

One of my favorite elements of this book was the world building. The world was so detailed and in depth. Miss Bracken did a excellent job explaining the world, the rules, the people living in this world, and how this world fit in with modern day. It was such a pleasure to explore this world and I really believe that this world could be in reality. Also the writing was very excellent and well done. The action scenes were so intense and exciting, I actually felt like I was smack dab in the middle of the action.

The story was very much a tale of feminism and empowerment. I am glad to say it didn’t overwhelm me and it wasn’t too much in your face. I thought their was the right amount of action and dialogue. My one issue I had was I wished that the purpose of the Agon was explained a bit more and maybe the ending could have been slower paced and not as fast as it was.

Lore was a very complex but relatable main character. I loved her no nonsense attitude, her sarcastic sense of humor, and her drive to get things done and not wait around. At times I felt horrible for her and everything she went through but I like to think that all those terrible things that happened to her made her into the strong woman she became in the end. She turned her negatives into positives and didn’t let them stop her and her pursuit of justice. I loved that she wasn’t entirely righteous but wasn’t evil either. Her best friend Mile’s optimistic, gentle, and lovable personality was the perfect foil to her. Miles by far my favorite character. I loved him and his love for his friends and family. He was very funny and most of the things I laughed at were his jokes.

Castor was a very interesting character and very likeable. After his whole childhood was taken from him by leukemia, Castor got a second chance at life and he didn’t want to waste it. I admired his love for people and his good nature toward others. How no matter what he wanted to do the right thing and help people. He would always be a healer at heart and would try to give people the benefit of the doubt. His cousin Van was a great friend to him and the complete opposite of him. He was cold, distant, mysterious, and didn’t talk much to anyone. It was refreshing to see as more time went on, he opened up a lot more to the others and showed that he was a very kind and loving person. His life growing up hardened him and made him bitter and unable to trust a lot of people. I loved his character and how his wall came down exposing his true self and who he really was and needed to be.

The relationships were both good and well developed. Lore and Castor had a adorable childhood friendship that turned into a passionate and loving romance. Their interactions were very cute and sweet, the teasing they did to one another I thought was very adorable. How they could tease and say certain things that no one else could say to them. My favorite romance was Miles and Van, I thought they were absolutely adorable together and watching them go from disdain for one another to caring about each other and enjoying each others company was so cute to see.

I loved how the Mythology was portrayed and all the Gods had bits and pieces of their personalities sprinkled in from the tales told about them. There was one part I found very interesting and actually made me think about this tale in a totally different and brand new way. I felt the gods were powerful and posed a very dangerous threat to our heroes. I loved how Athena was in this book, her cold and distant personality masking a compassionate heart yearning to please her father and honor her father’s legacy. Lore and Athena's relationship was one of the best parts and how they both had a silent understanding for one another but also a little bit of mistrust.

I really recommend this book for lovers of Greek Mythology or those just starting to learn about it. This was a very exciting and enjoyable read and I am glad I went on this great journey.

The story was not engaging, I didn’t like any of the characters, and violent misogyny and pedophilia/the attempted grooming of a 10-year-old girl were used to emphasize how bad the antagonist was

As soon as I heard this book pitched at "Greek mythology mixed with Hunger Games," I was sold. And, for the most part, I throughly enjoyed this novel!

For me, the two main characters (Lore and Castor) felt a bit flat. I couldn't buy their chemistry, either. But, I didn't hate reading about them.

The ending was a bit convoluted, however that could easily be because I struggle to read action scenes.

All in all, I enjoyed this book and want to pick up more by this author!
