4.5 stars.

Dark, fast paced and action packed!

Greek mythology set in the modern world with fantastic storytelling and truly moving Greek tragedy interwoven.

Easy to read and hard to put down this book grips you from start to finish, could easily see this being made into a movie.

Fans of mythology retelling's, strong female characters, dark twists and romantic tension will love this book.

There’s so much about this book that I want to love but I just can’t get into it. It feels a bit like you’re only getting half the information, you have to work to piece the story together as the world building and explanations are quick if they exist at all. It could really do with a glossary or a footnote when certain terms are used the first time to explain them better.
I’m hoping I can come back to this but at the moment it’s a DNF

Okay so this book wasn't what I expected but I loved it. I know many people especially one's who love greek mythology did not enjoy this book. I am a big mythology fan myself but I didn't have an issue with the book. There were a few times where I thought the portrayal of the gods was a but strange but nothing big enough to influence my enjoyment of the story.

The writing style was great. This is the first book I've read by Alexandra Bracken and I definitely want to read more! The Darkest Minds has been on my tbr for a while so I'm excited to read that soon :)

The ending was quite abrupt and a bit under explained imo and that's part of the reason my I didn't give it 5 stars. I genuinely enjoyed it but it just wasn't five stars for me.

Edit: After sleeping on it I decided to give it 4 instead of 5.75. There were no real plot twists and everything that was explained I had already guessed before. The things I couldn't figure out on my own weren't explained in the end which left me confused.

’I was born knowing how to do three things - how to breathe, how to dream, and how to love you.’’”

I can’t get over how much I love this book. I wasn’t expecting to love it this much because I thought parts of the plot were going to be predictable. It wasn’t until Athena’s betrayal that I realised how much I was enthralled!

I didn’t predict any of the plots regarding the Aegis throughout the book, only the Apollo storyline and what I thought would be the Wrath storyline. However, this book just subverted my every expectation and had me kicking myself for not realising things sooner. 10/10 would recommend this book to anyone!

As a Classicist, the world building took a bit of time to understand. Would have preferred more clarity on exactly how the Agon began and what happens to the gods and goddesses between the Agons.
