A quick and easy read, enjoyed it. Predictable but a good twist near the end. 3.5/5

Once I got past seeing my name on almost every page, I flew through this book. While not the usual Linwood Barclay suspense, it was still the usual character driven plot. Even the cars became characters. A light, quick read to brighten up the cold winter days...

I always love Linwood Barclay's novels, but I think this is my favourite in recent memory. He says it is a little different for him. It is brilliant and terrifying, especially in the age of rapidly expanding AI capabilities. The solution is brilliant. So great.

By far the most ridiculous story I've ever read. I can't actually believe this was written by a best selling author.
I've enjoyed the other Barclay books I've read, but this was full of cliched situations, characters that struggled to be one dimensional, and 'reveals' that made no sense whatsoever within the context of the story.
It's not 'so bad, it's good', it's just bad.

Read for a book group. Fast paced enough that I could hear the drum machines in the background...I had to force myself to finish it. A reasonable premise but I found it lazy, predictable and clichéd. I skimmed large chunks of text that were simply filling the page in between the actual plot development. Nothing would compell me to read another of this author's books and I can scarcely believe this was recommended by my friend!

Just couldn't get into this one.
The story started off with a cliff-hanger - pun 100% intended - but it just fell into a repetitive cycle with predictable almost stereotypical characters.
It felt clunky. The dialogue made me cringe at one point because it was a 12 year old boy that sounded like someone's grandad.
We knew at least one bad guy from the off so there was little mystery surrounding the whole related plot.
Character wise we had the widow unable to move on. The secretive teenage daughter. Kid who lost his dad and at the same time his good boy nature... don't cut your finger on the cookie cutter.
Maybe it gets better. Maybe I went into it with a somewhat negative impression.
Either way. Not for me.
