This was my 3rd reread and I still love to spend time with the March family. Maybe it’s because those girls have been with me since I was a kid (with the animated adaptation in the 80s) and as a teen (with the amazing 1994 movie) but every time I read / watch their stories I feel like I know those girls.
It’s a bit tricky to rate “good wives” alone as it’s usually published as one with Little women (and I usually read them in 1 go) but I do appreciate seeing their grown up lives unfold. Yes it doesn’t end as many readers wanted it but personally I love this ending.
I’ll admit some bits were a bit boring at times but then other chapters are so beautiful and full of love.

Honestly preferred this to part one. I didn’t expect to zoom through that so quick, but I really enjoyed it and it just felt like someone having a good old gossip which I loved. I didn’t expect to cry at Beth’s death, but absolutely sobbed. It was very, very beautifully written. I can really appreciate why people love classics, especially this book, as it is really beautifully written. So so glad I read this

I don't know why the Little Women series is still popular. The writing isn't particularly enjoyable and the story is boring. The morals are also very old-fashioned. I didn't even like it for the depiction of the living conditions and obligations of the time as it didn't teach me much. There's not a lot to learn except that most people were poor and that women were expected to serve their husbands. And that's nothing new, is it?
I only kept reading because I wanted to watch the film adaption.

Is this even considered a sequel any more? I've never encountered an edition of Little Women without it. Either way, Professor Bhaer is awesomesauce.

Good Wives is the sequel to Little Women and follows the sisters as they face the challenges of growing up as young women. Each of the sisters has their own dreams and goals in life: Meg is forming a family, Jo is pursuing a career as a writer, Beth is fighting with her health and Amy is seeking artistic success. Despite their different ways of life, the close sibling love is what binds them together.
The book is an impressive example of the importance of support and understanding within the family when dealing with everyday problems and personal challenges. It becomes clear that true happiness does not lie in social success or material things, but in interpersonal relationships and the ability to stay true to yourself.
