I liked it well enough but wasn’t wowed by it. I think it’s a good option for someone younger

I had so much faith in this book, but the pacing was horrible. On top of that, it was so incredibly repetitive that it frustrated me to no end. So much happened toward the end that was glossed over, and Ava was just a horribly boring main character. The “Rapunzel Retelling” aspects were weak, too.  Overall an incredibly disappointing read.

3.25⭐️ This is a good book if youre new to fantasy. It’s a good book in general but I hate the miscommunication trope. Especially when they can simply say the thing and eliminate a major problem.
I was so annoyed with the vampire for not just saying that she never killed anyone.

The witch, unbearable. “I look at her veins and wonder whose blood is in them.” Girl I saw you see her slurp down a fucking squirrel the day before and then not consume blood again after that. And she also told you that she doesn’t hunt or kill people and your reaction is still ‘she has to feed off of the living in order to stay alive, she doesn’t deserve to live’. Wtf are you, a fucking vegan? Don’t you eat of the living in order to survive? Smh.
Does the mother’s obsession with Ava’s long hair amount to anything? No.
The last 45-ish percent of this book was pretty good action-wise. The bad guy “reveal” was pretty obvious, but I still had a good time. Favorite characters were Cassiopeia and Nera! Overall it was not terrible.

Page turner. I love anything with witches. This book is a queer retelling of Rapunzel, with vampires and witches thrown in for good measure. The story is told through the alternating points of view of two teen women - one vampire and one witch. They used to be friends until they were separated from each other and taught to be enemies. Both young women are struggling to find a place for themselves within their respective communities and learning to see beyond the binaries of good/evil they have been taught. Lots of magical details, fun to read!

I felt like it was an ok book for me, but there were some details that fell a little dull and lifeless. Didn’t enjoyed the character development and think this book went mostly around the lost friendship. Which was perfectly solved with some communication between the both of them.
Overall the actions scenes and world building were interesting and pleasant.

Closer to 2 1/2. The premise had potential but the lazy repetitive writing style hold it back.
