fun to read and it reminded me a lot of the books i used to read when i was younger (like the school for good and evil and cinderella is dead) but other than that nothing special

This was an excellent book. I only downgraded it a star because I totally saw the bad-guy twists coming, so it's not to say the book was bad just that the villain was telegraphed a little hard. The story was wonderful and I liked the push and pull of Ava and Kaye. Overall excellent.

Don't read this if you're looking for a Rapunzel retelling; read it if you want vampires, witches and friends to enemies to lovers.

3,25 / 5 ⭐️

3.25⭐️ This is a good book if youre new to fantasy. It’s a good book in general but I hate the miscommunication trope. Especially when they can simply say the thing and eliminate a major problem.
I was so annoyed with the vampire for not just saying that she never killed anyone.

The witch, unbearable. “I look at her veins and wonder whose blood is in them.” Girl I saw you see her slurp down a fucking squirrel the day before and then not consume blood again after that. And she also told you that she doesn’t hunt or kill people and your reaction is still ‘she has to feed off of the living in order to stay alive, she doesn’t deserve to live’. Wtf are you, a fucking vegan? Don’t you eat of the living in order to survive? Smh.
Does the mother’s obsession with Ava’s long hair amount to anything? No.
The last 45-ish percent of this book was pretty good action-wise. The bad guy “reveal” was pretty obvious, but I still had a good time. Favorite characters were Cassiopeia and Nera! Overall it was not terrible.

Honestly, this book was a letdown. The worldbuilding felt weak, the characters were annoying, and there was SO much telling rather than showing, even for a YA book. The Rapunzel aspect was there but not much of a focus. This book had a lot of potential, but just wound up being exhausting.

A sapphic, friends to enemies to lovers, vampire and witch romance, Rapunzel retelling. Literally everything I've ever wanted all in one book, and let me tell you, it did not disappoint.

I absolutely fell in love with every aspect of this book- characters, world, magic system, plot. All of it. I loved jumping back and forth between the two main characters, Ava and Kaye. I am a big fan of multi-pov books, and this one did it so well that I simply can't complain. I loved seeing the real honest emotions coming from both of the girls, I really felt for each of them and I was rooting for them the whole time.

I'm rating this four stars because the only flaw I could find was that sometimes the writing would be repetitive or confusing. Some setting details would be repeated or a character would appear or move suddenly in a way that I couldn't quite understand. However, the book more than makes up for it.

This book is an epic sapphic fantasy, and I can't wait to add it to my collection.

I received this arc from NetGalley and Wednesday Books in exchange for an honest review.
