My first dose of le Carré was abnormal based on my knowledge of his work. It took me awhile to immerse myself in the setting and story, he is overdrawn at times, but once the plot gained legs in its execution I was a captive audience.
Osnard and Pendel are quiet the pair, and I was left with many unresolved assumptions for what would become of either of them. Overall, I would have awarded 3.5 stars to the work. The characters and story itself were rich, but the prose was too much of a distraction on occasion. I’ll definitely read more of his work to gain a better feel of the author’s voice.

A homage to Our Man In Havana (semi name checked in the book). Some great wry humour and the usual wonderful turns of phrase from Le Carre. It was possibly stretched a little longer than it needed to be and the author’s handling of female characters and relationships sometimes don’t quite work. Another great tale though.
