The book itself is not bad if you are simply looking for a read to relax with.

I feel as if it could've benefitted from taking things a bit slower and showing us more of the main character's psyche after spending so much time by herself. When reading you see that she is almost unaffected by it - she comes out willing to talk, communicate, trust and love. I truly believe that somebody in such a situation would have been more cautious of those around them rather than to easily fall in love right away. Additionally, the plot line was quite basic and everything was predictable, so I feel that it could've built on other parts to compensate.

Re-read from 2021. I would not have been able to go back through this without hoopla having the audiobook. I'm glad I could go through it again. You get a better feel of the scatter brain with audio. Her voice is a bit high pitched and nasally for me but the book itself set the scene for romance and an adventure

Why did I wait so long to read this book?
Shatter Me followes Juliette - who has always viewed herself as a monster, with a curse. She has the power to harm others with just her touch alone. After an accident when she was fourteen, she was cast away. For years she was tested, until they put her away in an asylum.
Until one day she gets a roommate. Then her life is flipped upside down. From the bleak nothingness, to being taken. She has to make a choice, if she will become a warrior or a weapon.
So, this is a YA dystopian novel that I have had sitting on my shelf for ten years now. It was recommended to me, so I grabbed the first book, without knowing any info about it. I have been hesitant to read it, bc the FMC character shares the same name as my daughter. But I finally decided to pick it up, and I'm glad I did.
I love YA & dystopian novels - so this was no different. It follows Juliette in a world that is dying. People can't afford to live, to eat, to survive. The reestablishment was supposed to help save the world, but they haven't. And Juliette ends up in the middle of having to make a choice- with multiple powerful people who have heard of her powers wanting her for their causes she has to decide what she will do.
Overall it was a good intro to the books, and world and I am looking forward to reading more about Juliette and the other characters. I definitely recommend if you like YA dystopian books.
4⭐ out of 5 ⭐.

This was a really fun novel to read however most of what I like about this book happens towards the end So I can't really speak about it without it being spoiling it. Go into this book completely blind like I did and it's a fun ride.

i sped through this in a day!

thoughts while reading

p10: it’s taken me a whole 10 pages to realise she’s writing all this down
p17: well it was either gonna be adam or kenji
p36: omg it’s uno reverse tower of babel
p45: this’ll be warner
p46: oh shit
p85: oh me the arguing is getting kinda funny considering
these two are apparently endgame. i mean i know why, cause everyone loves a good enemies to lovers, but i’m also loving trying to work out why
p93: so
we hate adam
why?
p108: warner touching her might well be because he’s attracted to her but it’s definitely a power play too. he knows she’s starved for attention and will unconsciously cling to any intimacy
p116: adam better not start power playing too. i should probably just ignore my preconceived notions based off spoilers otherwise they may spoil the experience
p120: 19? bloody hell warner must’ve had a tortured childhood to be this calculating already
p147: KENJI
p165: damn girl, you are powerful
p176: adam is so brave
p184:
WARNER CAN TOUCH HER TOO???
how?? what is the science behind this?
p222: 😂 james is really cracking me up
p254: warner is so delulu
