Still my favourite Shakespeare. I love the witches and Macbeth's journey from good/loyal to evil. Other than Romeo and Juliet, I can entirely comprehend, while not sanction, the actions the characters take. And oracles are kind of my weak spot, so go witches! (Although I really prefer Tolkien's take on walking woods and being killed by men not born by women.)

This Barnes & Noble edition is really helpful. Great notes and textual explanations. Highly recommend it if you're new (or rusty) to reading Shakespeare. Only $7.95.

Prompted to re-read this after my millionth viewing of Hamilton; it didn't disappoint.

Shakespeare falls deeper into nihilism with Macbeth. There appears to be a force of nature propelling Macbeth towards evil and treachery. Macbeth is a more sympathetic character than King Lear or Iago, other characters reflecting this tradition. The undercurrent of supernatural destiny seems responsible for both these feelings of empathy as well as a feeling of general dread and horror.

My first Shakespeare and wow... this man really is as good as people claim! Even better, I must say. For someone who was not born in an English-speaking country, it was not the easiest of reads; still, it was extremely enjoyable and valuable.
Macbeth must be one of the most complex characters in literature/theatre, and I was quite happy to see that his wife, Lady Macbeth, played such an active and important role instead of being the passive lady we unfortunately see in so many stories.
Watching this on stage must be wonderful!
