The second in Burroughs’ experimental Nova Trilogy. Scenes of violence and homoerotic deliriousness overwhelm a vague sci-fi detective plot. A mostly confusing, non-linear narrative. The novelty wore off for me after the first book.

My favorite of the cut-up novels (includes Wild Boys, Nova Express, The Soft Machine)...lyrical, loopy, confused, witty, as usual: funny as can be, and (perhaps?) an important contribution to the evolution of literary form.

There's some fascinating ideas in here but it is so hard to dig them out of his cut-up method. There's sci-fi and dark satire but it's so hard to access it. Every "chapter" starts somewhat straightforwardly but then disintegrates until you're reading near gibberish. It's an interesting read, but not the most enjoyable one. I may not get to the 3rd part of the trilogy for awhile.
