This is a book I always come back to. I'm so in love with the unique magic system and relatable characters.

One of the best and most unique wizardry series ever. The sheer genius of becoming a wizard from picking up a book that calls to you from the library... LOVE. The magic system is different from any I've ever read.

The threat of eternal night is much less fun than a book that tells you how to make magic

One of the first novels I recall reading after Harry Potter. I must have been around 10 or so? I think I was in 6th grade; I remember doing a book report on this. It was a cute story if I remember correctly.

The most frustrating part of this book is the fact that people who couldn't see the manual for what it was, saw it as a beat up children's book. How do you think I found it?

It was billed to me as HP with diversity. I don't think that the worldbuilding is as good, it didn't hook me as deeply, at least not initially. But it was a good story and I enjoyed!

Just as good as I remembered it. Why haven't I ever found one of these books? Also, never went through a wardrobe in to a magical land. sigh.

A good start to the series. Action, adventure, and a very mathematical idea of magic are great. Occasionally long descriptive paragraphs break up the flow, but I recommend it.
