I really, really wanted to enjoy this book! I’ve been patiently waiting for West’s story and I was super excited to see all the Ravenels and Sebastian and Evie’s family together again! But, I just wasn’t feeling this story, sadly. I think most of the reason is that I’m not a fan of insta-love and that’s pretty much what happens between West and Phoebe. I typically devour a Kleypas book in a day or two, but it took me a few weeks to finish this one.

Lisa Kleypas delivers again - this time with a beautiful story about second chances. Devil's Daughter is Phoebe and West's story.

Phoebe is the beautiful, young, widowed single mother of two, who is just coming out of her mourning period. She attends her brother's wedding festivities where she meets the infamous West Ravenel. Though they hadn't met before, Phoebe has long held a grudge against West for the way he used to bully their husband when they were children.

But West isn't the person he was as a child - or even the person he was before his brother inherited the estate West now runs (which seems to have given him a sense of purpose.) While Phoebe quickly sees that West has changed, can West overcome his own self-image. Could he ever be good enough for Phoebe and her sons?

These two (or four when you include the children) were perfect together. For me, all of the interactions with family and friends pushed this one over the top from really like to love.

Another Ravenel book down! This one was about Sebastian and Evie’s daughter, Phoebe, and I loved it so much!! A widowed noblewoman who finds love unexpectedly with West Ravenel, who is the most charming and funny man. I’m a sucker for romances where one of them has children already! It was all so cute.

Can we discuss how perfectly this book linked the Ravenels and the Wallflowers? Even while reading it, I wanted to go back and re-read the whole Wallflowers series. Then the whole Ravenels series. Then start over again! Kleypas seamlessly brought back all the characters from both series, without leaving the reader going "wait, who was that again?" It was wonderful.

Did I enjoy the romance between the main characters? Yes. But it was secondary to revisiting all the old faces, which is the only reason why I rated it 4 stars instead of 5.

West is the best sort of self loathing yet confident hero. Of course he doesn't think he's good enough to marry Phoebe. So we get a familiar story, but Kleypas writes it so well you can't help but enjoy it.
Just one thing I couldn't figure out...why was it called "Devil's Daughter"? Perhaps it has to do with her being Seb and Evie's daughter? It's been too long since I read their story. But West is delightful and I loved his story.

Loved loved loved! All my favorite past characters came back, even from the Wallflower Series. The dynamics, the fun and heartfelt dialogues were so thoughtfully done that I kept just reading and reading. I loved West already, so I was waiting for his story very impatiently. I liked Phoebe every time I got a chapter on her until I loved her too. Their chemistry is chef’s kiss.

I enjoy most of Lisa Kleypas's book, but I think this is the best one in a LONG time, and definitely the best of the Ravenels. I do think it is helpful to have read at LEAST the entire Ravenels series so you can see West's development prior to the story, and if you haven't read the Wallflowers series, you're really missing out. Having the knowledge of both of those series and their casts of characters in your pocket will help make this book even more delightful. I loved loved loved West and Phoebe's wit, their dynamic, West interacting with Phoebe's children--there's so much to love in this book. I laughed more times than I could keep track, which I can't always count on in a historical romance. (Though I did listen to this on audiobook, narrated by Mary Jane Wells, and she was the BEST romance audiobook narrator I have every listened to. I'm sure my enjoyment of the wit was increased by her delivery.) And the sex scenes were very well written and emotionally lovely. This book was a delight.

Oh, West Ravenel, the man that you are!! I absolutely adored this book in the Ravenels series. Phoebe and West had undeniable chemistry and it was so nice to see West finally get what he deserves after changing his ways so substantially over the course of the other books so far. It was nice to see how Phoebe and West’s pasts crossed. I loved getting to see West with Phoebe’s children and I loved seeing exactly how far he’s come in the world of farming. I knew this one would be full of super juicy drama and I wasn’t disappointed. Lisa I just absolutely crushes historical romance and I’m beyond excited for the next book in the series!

Not my favorite in the series, but West is everything and deserves the world.
