Reasonably charming, though Collins runs out of good stories about halfway through.

A pretty straightforward recounting of his life and career. Doesn't get too detailed about the development of his work with Genesis (which was my primary reason for reading), but he does cover band politics, his journey to becoming a solo artist (and ubiquitous in the 80s), and his struggles with alcoholism. Readable and fun for fans.

I was pleasantly surprised by this book. It read much better than other musician bios. I was a big Phil & Genesis fan in the 80s and 90s, so I esprcially enjoyed reading his take on that era.
But Phil isn't terribly introspective - he definitely lives in the Phil Collins Bubble. And that can make some of his tales unintentionally hilarious (Why on earth was Jill so upset about that 5-page "I'm leaving" fax? After all, he put so much care into what he wrote! Why did Jimmy Page seem so pissed when Phil crititqued another musician when he was part of an informal Zeppelin reunion? Surely it couldn't have anything to do with Phil skipping all the rehearsals for that same performance?)
But with age comes a bit more perspective and sensitivity in his relationships. The tales from his later years, especially regarding his many health issues, were a little sad, but he seems to be handling it all with a relentless hopefulness. I hope he's found lasting happiness with his latest ex-wife.
