Loved the interracial couple aspect of this book. I also could tell it was written in 2018 without having to look it up. 10% too long, but I really enjoyed the story and the writing. Some of the internal conflict was redundant but it was also very relatable and real.

This was a fun addition to The Red Lipstick Coalition series. Valentina (aka Val) is an unconventional heroine. She's a curvy size 16 who plays a horn in the orchestra for Wicked. She hasn't had a date in 5 years and she has a crush on her fellow orchestra player Sam.
What starts as a bet between Sam and his freind (not really) Ian, Sam dates Val for 1 month. What starts as a bet turns into something more and now he is dating her because he has feelings for her. You know this can't end well.
My only complaint about this book is that the Epilogue seemed to contain a little spoiler about the next book.

witty smart romcom. Different take. loved the fmc who is plus size and latina..plays the trumpet and actually IS quirky. MMC is in rockabilly band...they both love swing dancing. He 'helps" get dates. wonderful narration!

This author has a way of portraying a scene with such grace. It is as if her words were musical notes and the paper becomes the song. So eloquently sublime.
Poignant Story with great characters, setting, and an important message of seeing oneself from the vantage point of others.

Between the orchestra pit of a broadway show and swing-dancing jazz clubs, this book had some interesting settings. The plot isn't difficult to guess, but it was an enjoyable read.

4.5 - Adorable romance (I call books like this rom-coms because they are basically the movies I love to watch in book form). Val is a size 16 trumpet player, and her inner dialogue hits very close to home. I really enjoyed this book.

5 stars and beyond!
This series is everything! I fell in love with Piece of Work and fell hard again for Player. I think this series is going to be hands down one of my favorites and we still have two books left and I can already say that it will be before reading those. This book was so beautifully done and poetic and funny and such a Swoon fest *dreamy sigh*. Its hard to write down all the feelings I have in my head about Sam but boy is he such the perfect book boyfriend. Sam was top notch. Val was such a realatable heroine all her thoughts and insecurities were all close to home and I can appreciate that her size was as well. Sam and Val together were amazing I could have kept on reading about them. The first book gave us art and this one gave us music I can't wait for the next two. I love how in the end it gave us a glimpse where the last two girls, Katherine and Amelia were in their lives now I can't wait to read how they got there. These groups of girls are unforgettable along with the men they fall in love with. I can't wait for Booked that little sneak peek had me wishing I could keep going. Hurry up January!
