This book is devastating but in a very relatable ans realistic way. Asher truly understands how to portray complex emotions and the complications of high school life. Hannah's descent is so clear and yet happens in the blink of an eye. Amazing book, would recommend.

an excellent teen novel, where such a complicated and dark topic is examined through the eyes of an adolescent. this topic is treated with such respect, and the fact that this book exists at all is a testament to respecting the fact that teens do experience suicide and the complicated emotions that come with being a "bystander", not just to suicide, but to other extremely dark and tense topics. asher gives teens a safe space within the novel to explore these topics.

I know everybody thinks this glamourizes suicide, but i really didn't get that vibe. It pointed out the fact that people choosing suicide, especially teens, are in pain and have been in pain for a long time. They don't know where to turn because everywhere they look, they're an inconvenience, a joke, a trophy, so they turn it all inside. The characters that were sent the tapes in this book probably weren't really affected more than a few days, and after that, didn't change what kind of person they wanted to be. And The hole that Hannah left really only mattered to a few, and i think she knew that. People choosing suicide don'  think they're getting revenge on others, they're thinking they cannot see any other solution. Only looking inward. Which i see as the whole point. Everyone says, "ask for help, I'm here for you" but for Hannah and for those that choose suicide, it's only a surface statement. This story hit hard for me, for a variety of reasons. Worth a read, but difficult to cope with if you get it. Don't watch the show, it was a poor Hollywood adaptation.

Although I don’t believe this is a perfect book and probably wouldn’t recommend it to anyone, it was sad hearing Clay’s story. The emotional impact was right on target but the messages could’ve been executed better.
