I randomly found out about this book on the internet and decided to give it a go. I'm quite familiar with modern Turkish media but I'd never read anything by a Turkish author before and I'm glad it was this story.
I went in knowing nothing about the story or themes and I believe it was best. It's not the type of book I'd usually pick but given it's considered a classic Im glad I got the chance to read it.
I enjoyed the characters, their outlooks on life and the writing. Despite it being an old book it was very easy to get into the world it's depicting.
I have two main grips with this book, one is entirely my own fault for not wanting to learn what it was about before starting it since it made me assume MC would become a werewolf and that clearly did not happen. The second one wasn't the fact that I saw the twist coming a mile away, I can live with that, but rather the fact that he let his daughter, lite ally the living embodiment of his one true love go and never know the truth? And I'm supposed to feel pity for him? I really thought there'd be a second twist where we learn his older daughter is in fact the one he had with Maria. I think it would explain why they had a different relationship, why she actually cared about him, why she treasured the expensive parts of the house, etc.
