The story was okay, but it did not keep my attention.  I became too impatient with the young ranger's lack of self-awareness or maturity, her unwillingness to think past her own two feet regardless of training or situation.  Maybe I'll return to the tale later.

Overall I found the world premise of this book interesting. It reminded me quite a bit of colonial America and the issues with rulers across a sea and native Americans.

I found the descriptions in the book to be fantastic and they always painted a vibrant and vivid picture of what was going on. This definitely follows the epic quest model of a storyline.

As I went through the book I was increasingly frustrated with Leiyn. Her extreme prejudice couldn’t be curbed by anything not even the truth. And that closed mindedness really made me dislike her as a character.

I’m still a little shaky on the religion of the world as it wasn’t ever really defined or explained. The same goes for government. I can’t tell if there’s multiple kingdoms with colonies or just one.
