This one becomes complicated quickly, as a series of bank robberies compete with the death of an ex for the attention of Harry Hole, who once again finds himself in the center of a labyrinthine case and this time must clear his own name. As the cases progress, they reveal some unsettling shared roots in hot-blooded betrayal and cold-blooded vengeance. The solution is very intricate and well crafted while leaving at least one enormous loose end for the next book.

I enjoyed the intricate story line, and the way it transported me to Norway (where I've never been).

Really, even in a Norwegian mystery novel the detective has to be a really exceptionally talented detective who is a "loose cannon" and routinely butts heads with the rest of the squad? There just can't ever be a mystery involving a perfectly adequate but not exceptional rule-following detective? Why?
I'm only an hour or so into this book and I'm sad that all the way over in Norway, our cliches abound.
Edited to say I've finished it, just so I can say I did. Could not possibly follow all the ins and outs of the mystery, didn't care for the detective cliches. I think I'm officially breaking up with mysteries.

I really enjoyed this Nesbo "Harry Hole" mystery. It was set up just right and kept me reading.

I am now done reading all the translated books by Nesbo and hope they translate some of his older books...including "The Bat Man" which is the first Harry Hole mystery.
