considering it was less than £1 I bought it on my kindle for a quick read on the train journey to and from college. I actually owned Dorothy must die anyway but was too busy with revision to read it so I thought I would just read about how dorothy became evil and oh my God I loved this novella so much. it was quite lengthy for a novella but it was still so good and Danielle Paige did really well in showing dorothy's gradual transformation into evil. I literally didn't know who to trust which did annoy me a little but I suppose that was the whole point. cannot wait to read Dorothy Must Die!!

" They say you can’t go home again. Well, I’m proof that’s not true. Home isn’t just where you’re born—it’s where you belong. I found my home and I let it go. But I came back. Now I was home for good, and I would never, ever make the mistake of leaving again. The past was gone forever. There was no place like here."

This took me more or less three weeks to finish. And it's got less than two hundred pages. I know. Sue me.

I've always loved The Wizard of Oz. I remember way back when I was about fourth or fifth grade, I made my mom get me a copy of the novel because I was so obsessed with it. (But that was the time when the longest I would read a picture books so yes, I never got to finish it. I've always regretted not finishing it.) Anyway, The Wizard of Oz, if anything, is literally my childhood, so when I heard about a YA retelling of it, I knew I had to keep my eyes on it.

No Place Like Oz is amazing. Danielle Paige's writing is amazing. She captured Dorothy's voice the way I've imagined in my mind perfectly. I think the twist she's given the story is interesting. I mean, I was still a child when I fell in love with this world, so basically, I've always thought of Dorothy as some kind of hero. But, it seems to me, it's bound to change. Thanks to this upcoming trilogy. I've always been in love with the idea of having other people write about a different story about the canon. (Eg.: fanfiction) I like reading about background stories that never were and this one right here is, in a way, making a background story canon. (This paragraph does not make sense. Let us pretend it never happened. The paragraph that never happened.)

Yes, anyway, if you're a fan of The Wizard of Oz, or retellings, or both, I suggest you give this one a try.

Four stars out of five because there were some parts I found boring and all-talk, but the experience is still amazing, nonetheless.

I went into this novella thinking that I would get some villain backstory so that I could at least understand why Dorothy is the way she is in [b:Dorothy Must Die|18053060|Dorothy Must Die (Dorothy Must Die, #1)|Danielle Paige|https://d.gr-assets.com/books/1381437107s/18053060.jpg|25337746]. Nope. Didn't get that. Villain? What villain? Dorothy is hardly evil. The only things she is guilty of is being a whiny child with power given to her by a shady witch. Her reasons for being a tyrant are just because she is really greedy and hateful.

Dorothy was apparently always a spoiled, self-centered, rude brat who thought shes deserved everything just because she wanted it. Even before things were happening, she was just plain mean as hell and acted like a child having a tantrum. Having to read this from her POV was like nails on a chalk-board. Ozma was cool though, I'll give you that.

I'm not sure why I'm surprised though. I wasn't much a fan of [b:Dorothy Must Die|18053060|Dorothy Must Die (Dorothy Must Die, #1)|Danielle Paige|https://d.gr-assets.com/books/1381437107s/18053060.jpg|25337746], try as hard as I do because the idea of this series is amazing, and probably could have been, but instead it's just... bad. Even at that thought, I'll give this series credit for being addictive, like a bad TV show you can't stop watching.

It was a reread for me and the first time I dare to say I hated this novella. I couldn't pay attention but now I loved it like a lot. It was interesting I connected some dots and they just blow my mind. It was great.

Very solid prequel novel. Really powerful foreshadowing without giving too much away. But not so vague that you don’t understand the lore.

Let me start off by saying that I LOVE a good villain. Especially, one with a good back story. That said, this novella was character development epic-ness!!!!!!! I loved it. It was slow on the action, but juicy on the background for Dorothy Must Die.
