The worldbuilding here has totally seeped into the way I see the real world, as every hidden doorway and obscure corner are clearly parts of Whatever-City-I'm-In Below. And Richard Mayhew is cleverly disguised as an ordinary bumbling idiot, but in the ways that really count he's everything I love about a classic hero.
There are occasional places that get unnecessarily dark and icky for my tastes (and to be clear, many more than are dark and icky, but in ways that ARE necessary for the story) but I've never felt like this story wallowed in the darkness. It more presents that there is a whole lot of darkness in this world, and mildly wonders what you would like to do about it.
Graphic: Death and Murder
Moderate: Animal death, Child death, Confinement, Suicidal thoughts, Torture, and Death of parent
Minor: Infidelity and Vomit

i've kinda been a hater lately with regard to goodreads and also I've been horribly stuck because after come and get it none of my library books were appealing anymore. I reread a mediocre ya novel and it fixed nothing so i was struggling to decide what to read next and then I remembered that i wanted to reread neverwhere last spring and while i tragically never was able to compelte my grand vision of reading it upstairs on the dublin bus i could read it down in the dc metro if i reread it now. and so I did. the writing was still quite good and I loved the setting but unfortunately it just didn't click the same way...perhaps because I've been so busy lately I can't truly appreciate reading. which is what usually happens when I'm busy. who knows
