Honestly my favorite book and I swear if someone tries to say that they don't want to read this book because the movie sucked I will slap you. This is a BIZZILION times better than the movie. Please read!

This reminded me of the wizard of oz or the phantom tollbooth. Wish I would have been brave enough to attempt this in German. The first half was great (the movie only made it through the first half). the second half was a little meandery and got bogged down with the moral but I did like it and found it worth reading.

What can you say about a childhood favorite really? Children's literature offers a message. I just love a story with one of those. Do what you wish, but be careful what you wish for.

I had to add this after seeing one of my friends is reading it. It is a great book. If you are a fantasy fan then you really have to read this. If you have only seen the movie, which is great for its own reasons, but not the book, give it a shot. It starts a little slowly, but turns into a wonderful story about the importance of belief in fantasy and imagination.

Magical. I wish I had read this book when I was a kid. Originally written in German, I found the translation spot on and not at all choppy, despite having so many make-believe places and characters. The story flowed well and was entrancing. The only thing I didn't like is when the author is done with a character, they are often phased out with a phrase like "that's a story for another time", which makes it seem like the author plans on writing a several more stories later on to continue those additional story lines, when those characters are so small, you, as a reader, know there will be no such stories.
