I love revisiting the Ingalls family. I have read this series countless times over the years and they seem to get better each time….

The way Laura Ingalls Wilder describes life in 1870’s Wisconsin makes me feel as if I am right there among the family, whether it is to pick up wood chips, churn butter, or play in the attic with dolls. I appreciate the care Mrs. Wilder to in going back into her memories and sharing even some of the tiniest details, making sure certain things were explained (doing so while not making it sound boring).

I alternated between the paperback book, which I was reading with Little One for schooling, and the audiobook that I was listening to for my own enjoyment. And let me say, it was indeed a joy to listen to. Cherry Jones performed the reading and does a great job, having a soothing voice it was great to listen to at night when I was restless. Add in Paul Woodiel performing “Pa’s” fiddle and the audiobook was brought to life! When reading the paperback copy Little One enjoyed it, she liked the illustrations and matching them to their parts in the story.

*What I have expressed are entirely my own thoughts. I was not compensated in any monetary way.*

I can completely understand why this is a cult favorite, my younger self would have been obsessed with the fascinating historical details in this. the simple writing style fits the protagonist so well!

She thought to herself, “This is now.” She was glad that the cozy house, and Pa and Ma and the firelight and the music, were now. They could not be forgotten, she thought, because now is now. It can never be a long time ago.
