As a kid I could never get into the books because I expected them to follow the TV show, which they did not. I decided to give them a go as an adult for fun. I enjoyed the first book.

I hadn’t read this before. It’s about 50% descriptions of chores, but I enjoyed this window into a lifestyle that is so different from our modern way of living. Predictably, parts of it have aged really poorly, but I’m looking forward to reading more of the series.

I read this so many times as a child. Pure nostalgia.

As a grownup, I might only give it 4 stars, but my 5 yo would definitely give it 5. And the childhood me would give it 5 as well, so 5 it is. Basically a year in the life of a family in 1870's Wisconsin. How could you not love it?

I had always meant to read these books growing up and I just never did, so I decided now is as good a time as any and decided to jump in. The books are great for visualizing exactly what's happening and I couldn't help putting the faces with those from the T.V. show, but overall a wonderful book. Great for kids and adults alike. Very charming. I would recommend this book. 5 out of 5 stars.

Some children's books, you have to remind yourself that you're not the audience. They're for children, they won't perfectly suit an adult. But not this book, or indeed the whole series. No allowances need to be made. I was as interested and enthralled by it as I was 20 years ago, and I believe my sons will be in a couple years.

I’ve read these so many times I can’t offer an unbiased review, but they are the very best. And this was an audiobook listen, with fiddle, which was very enjoyable.
