So there are some really great images in this, but at the same time - the language itself isn't anything special, just the ideas are cool. Therefore - I recommend you read a modern retelling of it, where you're less likely to be smacked randomly on the face with something racist out of nowhere. For example.

I really didn’t enjoy this. I’m sure it would be interesting in a university seminar, but despite being a graduate theology student I just couldn’t get on with it. The characters are SO obvious and the casual racism and hypocrisy made it unenjoyable.
