This was a bizarre run on fever dream. Perhaps with better critical apparatus, it would have made some sense, but reading them as bedtime stories was baffling.

As with many of the books about Wales and it’s history that I’ve come across in recent years, I had no idea what this one would hold for me! I had heard it described a number of different ways and the only way I can describe it is to say it’s a mixture of Arthurian legend and Ancient Greek epic!

These myths are all the basis for a lot of Welsh history and cultural memory, but are also swirled with magic and mystery. King Arthur features heavily after the first few stories and the tales that do concern him add to the mystery surrounding Wales’ greatest “king”.

This translation is wonderful, and the glossary of terms proved to be extremely useful!

This took me soooo long to finish, every time I tried I would actually fall asleep and keeping track of who was who and what they were in the middle of doing was a challenge.
It became a point of pride that I wouldn’t read anything else until I finished this.
And I finally finished it. Everything is still mixed up in my head about who did what and why.

Hmmm. Here and there. Some great imagery tho. Feeling inspired. But also a little bit uncertain. Hmmmm
