Carson McCullers is one of my all time favourite writers, I come to her work knowing I will love it and this strange little book did not disappoint me. Her characters are all so well thought out, complete with their own quirks, daydreams, loneliness and strangeness. I especially loved the characters of Anacleto and Alison in this book, the first of which made me laugh out loud -- a needed dose of humour in this otherwise dark and obsessive story. The plot is laid out in the first few sentences and then the rest of the novella runs through it, but it manages to still be full of chilling suspense.

The author brings her usual charm, observational humour and analysis. Just missed a certain impact that her other books have.

Quero ler tudo dela.

I love reading McCullers, all that remains of this book for me in memory is the mood it evoked
