Overall I thought this book had a lot of interesting things to say about the tourism industry and human impact on the environment, and there were a lot of descriptions in this book that were honestly, with no other way to describe it, really delicious to read. I do wish that some of the concepts could've been explore a little deeper, since there was so much to unpack in this book but overall I had a great time.

People keep saying this book is a ‘horror-comedy’ and ‘darkly funny’. I’m not sure I’d agree that it’s funny? It’s thought provoking and satirical but I don’t know who’s rolling around laughing at the events in this book…

It’s a bit of a wild ride, and honestly I’m not sure what happened at the end exactly. I definitely think it could have been explained clearer. I think it tried to leave us with a cliff hanger and I was just a bit lost so didn’t understand what the cliff hanger was. I could benefit from discussing the book with people who’d read it for sure!

Overall I enjoyed this book and read it in one go. The premise is twisted, but sadly not unbelievable.

An interesting insight to what tourism can do to a community, becoming a parody of itself to keep the interest of foreigners even to the point of tearing itself apart. The pacing felt a bit strange - it took half the book to get to the intrigue - but the set up to the final takeaway, when it came, was fascinating.
