My Rating: ❤️❤️❤️❤️
General Thoughts This is the second series I've read by this author. I really enjoyed the other series, so I was excited to give this one a go. It was enjoyable. I liked the main characters and their relationship. I love how the author spotlights so many traditionally marginalized people in her books. It adds such an important spark to her books. Many regency novels are devoid of diversity, so I appreciate the author's purposeful inclusion and the research that underlies her books. An enjoyable read. I still prefer the other series (the Luna sisters), but I'm glad to have read these as well.
Spice Meter: ❤️🔥.5 Spicy, not the most detailed but definitely there.
Romantic Tropes
-historical fiction
-regency
-romance
-one night to more
-off-limits/forbidden romance
-romantic suspense (a tinge)

Charlotte was forgotten by her husband in his will and had to sell her wedding ring to return home from India after his death and her in-laws cast her out of her own home with nothing, her cousin offers her a chance to be a whore for a night or longer if she's lucky enough to become someone's mistress, but she turns down the opportunity.
That same night she meets Fin in the garden and winds up spending the night with him, she vanishes the next morning and our story picks up a year later. Viscount Firthwell(Fin) has never forgotten Charlotte and he can't believe it's her when he runs into her again at a fundraiser for the school where she found a job.
The relationship is angsty with class and religious difference(Charlotte is Jewish) she's being hunted and then blackmailed by her in-laws and Fin is hiding his own secrets, if you've read book 1 you know if not I won't spoil it.
These 2 are perfectly balanced, he's optimistic and she's more realistic. The epilogue also focused more on the political aspect of the story on the Jewish relief act and not just they had so many kids and lived HEA.

I wasn't enamored with the first book in this series, but I'm so glad I gave it another chance because this was wonderful! I particularly loved the Jewish heroine and class difference.

The meetcute was fun, but afterwards there was a lot going on and for my taste not enough interactions between the MCs. Combined with a lot of (unnecesarry) secrets and a love triangle I lost the motivation to continue.

Well , to my shame, it’s the first book that I’ve read by the author although I’ve heard great things about her stories before from my book friends.
Even if it’s the second book in the series, it can easily be read as a stand-alone.There are some secrets and questions that I had and apparently I will get the answer in the first book but that didn’t deter me from enjoying this book .
It’s a book filled with so many emotions and feelings, I enjoyed everything about it, the writing, the characters, the twists and turns, all the topics that maybe even in our times our society is still struggling with it.
I loved everything and looking forward to the next books in the series.

I really enjoyed reading this historical fiction. When two people from opposite sides of the society meet and sparks fly. They will face many hurdles before they can even imagine to be together. But the hearts want what the hearts want and they don't much care for society's rules. It's a very well-written book and I think that all the characters are great. Oddly, I liked Lady Flora more than two main characters. I wonder if we will get to read her story or not. In any case, I loved this book and I think it's a must read for historical fiction fans.
