This book really took me on quite an emotional journey - wow. It was so impactful and eye opening, encouraging a much needed discussion on the subject of sexual assault and consent. I really respect this book for how shocking and awful it is as it is so realistic. As a result of this, it makes it even more sad for me. Knowing that the first half of the novel, and the tragic events that form the basis of the plot, took place in a small town in Ireland to a fifth year student made it feel too close to home. It was frightening but in a way that I have the upmost respect for the author and the messages she touched on. The aftermath of the events, the interactions with the parents, and that ending (!!) was all too shockingly real. O’Neill is an amazing author with incredibly attention to detail and particularly vivid characters. She transports the reader to the heart of the drama and engraves the story and characters in one’s mind for a long time after finishing the novel.

Struggled with the rating for this one, it was very realistic and honest and portrayed an inside perspective of mental health perspective accurately and heartbreakingly. I took .5 stars off because it was so bleak, man. No hopefulness and very ambiguous which the author intended to do and I get that but it made me cry

it was really good. i didnt think i would like it but i ended up loving it. the ending was the only thing that really bugged me. it really showed the hardships of healing of something so traumatic, and anyone who wonder what that is like should read this book!!

A very good book that deals with the horrific nature of a very difficult topic. This one will be a massive trigger for some people so check out the warnings before picking it up. A very important read for parents and teens in the age we live in. It is a very difficult read but also very important I think.

**Very Spoilery Rant**
I am so mad after reading this because this book is still so right about how things are perceived when it comes to sexual assault. Too many people still opt for the boys will be boys and the responsibility is on girls and women to not draw attention to themselves.

The main character is this book is Emma and promiscuous fun loving 18 year old, who is also a bit mean and quite insecure underneath all her bravado. She is not a likeable character but this book does a fantastic job of showing the reader that just because someone dresses or acts a certain ways does not mean that they are “Asking For It”.  There are photos, it is plain to see that what happen to Emma was assault and yet Emma is the bad guy. She is labelled a slut etc. and all her friends drop her.

This is so wrong but is the reality far too often.
