After reading this book, the hypochondriac in me is grateful to know the existence of this disease, in case it happens to me and I need a doctor to look into it.

I’m sorry she had to go through this. My mom was misdiagnosed for a long time, and by the time we finally got an accurate diagnosis, we had only three weeks left together. So I know a little about this, even though my mom’s disease was something entirely different. As such, my compassion meter was very high on this one.

I really liked this book, I saw the movie on Netflix so I went to seek this book out. Great read, and it's very interesting and informative on this disease and this woman's experience. Highly recommend.

Admittedly I did read this because she is suffering from the same disease that Will Graham has in Hannibal, and I wanted to read more about it. Her story is both horrific and inspiring.

An incredibly interesting read. Not my typical book but this book checked off all the things I could've asked from it. Went into a good amount of detail on the medical side, had some political commentary on the medical/mental health systems in place (in the U.S. at least), and was super interesting to read, despite being nonfiction. Never a dull moment. The fact that it was told in first person, which is difficult to do when one goes through such adversity/a severe illness. Also highlights the importance of trusting your gut as loved ones of someone going through such a difficult illness and how to advocate for yourself/patient despite the system not being well-built for finding rare diagnoses.
